Left: NYPD officers chalk-killing an unarmed African American (2014)
Right: Detroit police officers brutalizing an African American protester (1942) in front of a public housing project.
You can add Rodney King beating in 1991 in LA.
Scenes are so similar, but. . . .
Pundits say that a racial disturbance will lead to conservative backlash, but is it really so?
1943 Sojourner Truth riot in Detroit precipitated coalition building between civic liberals, white unionists, and civil rights activists. This coalition served as a backbone of the Civil Rights Movement. Racial disturbance does not always lead to backlash but sometimes help organize liberal coalitions.
Look closely at diverse crowds protesting killings of unarmed African American males on the TV screen right now. The videos are, more often than not, HD with FULL COLOR. These are not black and white. Then, we can build a coalition which will crush current political stalemate in Washington.
